Thriving in the Face of Adversity
I watched this Ted talk video on youtube titled "Thriving in the Face of Adversity" which was by Stephanie Buxhoeveden. I chose this resource because the title caught my attention and i wanted to learn more after I read the summary about when she was first diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. In this TEDx Talk she spoke about her story of being 25 years and got into a nursing anesthesia school, and enjoyed working out to relax. one day while working out right foot fell asleep and never woke back up and the pain in few weeks, started to spread to the next. She swept it away and didn't pay attention. She realized she had no feelings from waist down one day as she was in the locker room getting ready. She started having problems with her arms and vision. She went through painful tests and was diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis. She talked about how it all occurred in the prime of her life. Her type of MS was the Relapsing-Remitting MS and this certain attack where new lesions form and new symptoms occur and its the type that is somewhat treatable. She gives herself hundreds of injections to feel okay. Stephanie was given an advice to pursue a different career, but she kept going and worked had to study and become a MS nurse. she uses her personal experience to help others. To further my understanding, I also watched a video about Relapsing-Remitting MS and more information about Stephanie Buxhoeveden.
I learned a lot from this resource. One thing Stephanie Buxhoeveden talked about was having to get injections to feel okay as time goes. Another thing I learned is that most of the symptoms of MS are invisible. She created her website to help people to know whats next and empower them. In relation to course content was the type of Multiple Sclerosis she has, which is the Relapsing-Remitting MS that is very common, and with it, it gets worse, then get better so like ups and downs. I recommend this for others as part of their learning process because I believe hearing people who have experience in something always improves the knowledge we can have in a specific subject.
